01
Gardens by the Bay
This 101-acre horticultural showcase features the iconic Supertrees—18-story vertical gardens that light up nightly in a free 15-minute show. The Flower Dome and Cloud Forest conservatories cost SGD 28–34 (USD 21–26) and showcase plants from around the world. The Supertree walkway experience (SGD 8, USD 6) is optional. Best visited at dusk to catch the light show. Avoid midday heat; go early morning or late afternoon.
02
Marina Bay Sands & Marina Bay
The iconic three-tower hotel is worth seeing from outside even if you don't stay (room rates: USD 400+). The hotel's observation deck (SGD 26, USD 19) offers 360° views of the city, but locals find it overpriced. Better: walk the free Marina Bay promenade at sunset, snap photos, grab dinner with a view at one of dozens of restaurants, and watch the light shows reflecting off the bay. The Art & Science Museum and ArtScience Museum are here if museums appeal.
03
Sentosa Island
A 1.3-square-mile island resort 15 minutes from downtown, connected by cable car, monorail, or bridge. Universal Studios Singapore is the headline attraction (SGD 79–88, USD 60–67) but long queues and small park size make it less value than Orlando or Tokyo versions. Better bets: S.E.A. Aquarium (SGD 40, USD 30; excellent), Skyrides, zip-lining, and beautiful Palawan and Siloso beaches. Skip if short on time.
04
Chinatown District
Historic neighborhood of narrow shophouses, temples, and street markets. Wander pagodas like Thian Hock Keng Temple (free, built 1662), browse the Chinatown Heritage Centre (SGD 15, USD 11), grab authentic dim sum or noodles at hawker stalls, and shop antique and souvenir stores along Smith Street. Atmospheric at night when street stalls open. No entry fee for exploring; spending is optional.
05
Little India & Tekka Market
Colorful neighborhood smelling of spices, jasmine, and incense. Browse Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple (free), shop sari and jewelry stores, and eat the best Indian food outside India at hawker stalls. Tekka Market (Serangoon Road) is chaos in the best way: wet market fish counters, spice vendors, cheap lunch spots, and textiles. Early morning best for market energy. Hari Raya brings stunning decorations.
06
Singapore Botanic Gardens
A 157-acre Victorian-style garden (admission free) in the heart of Orchard. Walk 1.4 miles of paths past a lake, sculptures, orchid garden, and heritage trees. Locals come here to jog and relax; tourists overlook it in favor of Gardens by the Bay, which means fewer crowds. Perfect for escaping the city's hustle. Open 5 am–midnight; bring water.
07
Kranji War Memorial & Palau Ubin Island
Kranji (northwest, near Malaysia border) honors WWII fallen with a peaceful manicured garden (free). Most tourists skip it, but it's tranquil and historically significant. Nearby, Pulau Ubin is a rugged island accessible by bumboat (SGD 3 return, USD 2) where Singaporeans mountain bike and hike. It feels 50 years behind the rest of Singapore—chicken farms, old villages, mangrove trails. Worth a day trip if you want authentic, off-grid vibes.
08
National Museum & Asian Civilisations Museum
National Museum (Stamford Road, SGD 15, USD 11) covers Singapore's history in detail—colonial period, Japanese occupation, independence, and modern boom. The ACM (near Raffles Hotel, SGD 14, USD 10.50) explores pan-Asian art and culture. Both are excellent if museums appeal; skip if time is tight. Free entry after 6 pm most days.
